In the “My football journey” section, this time we bring you the story from a different perspective: through the eyes of a goalkeeper. What inspires a child to stand between the posts? What does it feel like to make a difficult save or stop a penalty? Who inspires him and what motivates him to keep working harder every day?
Today, we speak with Dimitri Todev from the 2015 age group, who shares how his love for football began, his favorite moments on the pitch, and the dreams hidden behind a goalkeeper’s gloves.
When did you first stand in goal, and how did you decide to become a goalkeeper?
I first stood in goal when I was 7 years old. I really loved the feeling of making saves, and from that moment I knew I wanted to be a goalkeeper.
What do you like most about being a goalkeeper?
What I enjoy the most is the feeling of making a great save and helping my team.

If you could train with any goalkeeper in the world, who would it be?
I would love to train with Iker Casillas one day. That would be an unforgettable experience for me.
Would you rather save a penalty or win a match?
Of course I would love to save a penalty 😊, but it is more important for us to win because victory is a success for the whole team.
What do you like most about Villarreal Masters Academy?
What I like most is making new friends, the coaches, the interesting training sessions, and the fact that I am constantly learning something new. I also enjoy the positive atmosphere and energy we have in the academy.
Who supports you the most in football?
My biggest support comes from my family, my dad, mom, sister, and grandfather, as well as my coaches.
What advice would you give to children who want to become goalkeepers?
I would tell them never to give up, to train hard, be brave, and always believe in themselves.
What is your biggest football dream?
My biggest football dream is to one day play as a goalkeeper for the best teams, represent Macedonia, and win trophies
